THE ARTIST AND THE MATHEMATICIAN: THE STORY OF NICOLAS BOURBAKI, THE GENIUS MATHEMATICIAN WHO NEVER EXISTED by Amir D. Aczel


A long titled but small and concise book writes mainly of French Mathematics Group Bourbaki. A detailed account of central theme of Bourbaki group, structuralism in Mathematics has been discussed. Author writes about how the ideas of structuralism came from anthropological and linguistic studies, how they affected mathematics and later how they got spread over to other faculties of arts and sciences.

Efforts of mathematician
André Weil and Alexander Grothendieck along with other members of Bourbaki group has been portrayed in detail. Author also discusses working style of the group. The account covers a biographical sketch of Nicolas Bourbaki in the sense that it discusses story of formation to fall of the Bourbaki group.
